2007 Children’s Defense Fund Beat the Odds Dinner
The Children’s Defense Fund and founder and president Marian Wright Edelman celebrated five extraordinary high school students who have overcome tremendous obstacles to ‘beat the odds’ at an awards dinner at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington , DC .  James Denton, star of TV’s Desperate Housewives, served as the evening’s “surprise celebrity presenter”, with Ali Wentworth and George Stephanopoulos serving as the evening’s co-hosts.  The evening included two performances by N’Kenge.

The Washington Center Gala 2007, Making a World of Difference, honoring Dr. Freeman A. George C. Marshall Foundation Award Dinner
honoring the Honorable Lee Hamilton and Senator John Warner.  Tributes given by Senator Richard Lugar and the Honorable Nancy Kassebaum Baker.  Bob Schieffer, CBS News, Chief Washington Correspondent, served as the evening’s Master of Ceremonies. MAY 2007

A Time of Remembrance honoring the families of America’s fallen in Iraq and Afghanistan; hosted by the White House Commission on Remembrance.  The outdoor program included performances by the Army Band and Chorus as well as the Gold Medal of Remembrance given to the children of the America’s fallen.

23rd Annual Gold Medal Award Dinner to benefit the World Environment Center honoring Alcan Inc. with the prestigious WEC Gold Medal for International Corporate Achievement in Sustainable Development. Black tie dinner and dance.

Fulbright Association Lifetime Achievement Medal Dinner honoring three outstanding Fulbright alumni: Craig R. Barrett, Chairman of the Board of Intel; John Hope Franklin, James B. Global Rights International Human Rights Day Dinner “Bringing Racism Into Focus”  The organization recognized the 5 year anniversary of the United Nations World Conference on Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance held in Durban, South Aftrica.  The program included a special tribute to David Carliner, one of Global Right’s earliest human rights advocates and a panel discussion moderated by Judy Woodruff, premiere journalist.  Venue: Capital Hilton.  Attended by 250 guests.

NOVEMBER 2006
A Tribute to Davis Guggenheim, director of An Inconvenient Truth, sponsored by the Environmental Film Festival in the Nation’s Capital.  Tributes by Russell Train, Jack Valenti and Al Gore.  Hosted by the Ambassador of Sweden.

Janelia Farm Research Campus
The week of events included a Gala Dinner for the Howard Hughes trustees with special guest Governor Timothy Kaine.
The week of events included a Symposium, VIP Open House & Reception for Loudoun County Officials and prominent business leaders, and a Public Open House for residents of Loudoun County.
Venue: Janelia Farm Research Campus, Ashburn, Virgina. 
Attendance at all events ranged from 250 to approximately 3,000 guests at the Public Open House.

The Faith & Politics Institute’s 15th Anniversary Celebration

13th Annual Love Letters for Literacy to benefit the Washington Literacy Council.  Prominent Washingtonians served as readers, including NPR Book Critic Maureen Corrigan, PBS senior correspondent and moderator Gwen Ifill and Trish and George Vradenburg.  The 2006 Literacy Laureate Award was presented to Senator Birch and Kitty Bayh.  Kathleen Matthews served as the evening’s Master of Ceremonies. Global Rights International Human Rights Day Dinner "Celebrating Women Fighting for Rights"  The organization recognized and paid tribute to women who have dedicated their lives to changing the world of human rights. The dinner included songs, video footage, testimonials by activists from Costa Rica, India and Sierra Leone and a special tribute to Global Rights executive director and human rights activist, Gay McDougall.  Zain Verjee, anchor for CNN International, emceed the event. Special musical performances by Sunny Sumter and the Washington Performing Arts Society’s Men and Women of the Gospel Choir.  Venue: Capital Hilton.  Attended by 450 guests.

Washington Area Women’s Foundation Annual Leadership Luncheon to benefit low-income, women-headed families in the Washington Metropolitan Area. Co-chaired by Gina Adams, Corporate VP for Government Affairs at FedEx Corporation, and LeRoy Pingho, Founder and CEO of PAC Corporation. The luncheon was emceed by Doreen Gentzler, co-anchor of NBC NEWS4, with a keynote address by Senator Mary L. Landrieu (D-LA), and a special performance by the Ballou High School Marching Band.  Venue: Grand Hyatt. Attended by 900 guests. 

 

JULY 2005

Imagine 2005 Charity Wine Auction and Magic of Music Children’s Concert to benefit Sonoma children’s charities and the Russian Arts Foundation. Co-chaired by Peggy and Fred Furth of Chalk Hill Estate and Barbara Banke and Jess Jackson of Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates. APRIL 2005

Triumph of Reason sponsored by the Alliance for International Conflict Prevention and Resolution celebrated the peaceful resolution of conflict by paying tribute to the 100th anniversary of the peaceful separation of Sweden and Norway as well as the more recent case of the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic. The countries’ ambassadors, H.E. Jan Eliasson, H.E. Knut Vollebaek, H.E. Martin Palous and H.E. Rastislav Kacer, served as the event Co-Chairs while Vice President Walter Mondale served as the Honorary Chair. The Alliance also presented its first annual “Peacebuilder Award” for excellence in peace-building and conflict resolution to Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf and Rabbi Sjalom Awraham Soetendorp. Venue: The Mayflower Hotel.  Attended by 150 guests.

Global Rights International Human Rights Day Commemoration "Rwanda, 1994~Sudan, 2004, Never Again"  The organization paid tribute to the human rights abuses that occurred in Rwanda in 1994 and to those presently occurring in Darfur, Sudan. The luncheon included songs, video footage and testimonials by activists from Darfur and Rwanda.  Zain Verjee, anchor for CNN International, moderated the testimonials, and Ray Suarez, Senior Correspondent for the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, served as Master of Ceremonies. Special musical performances by Washington Performing Arts Society’s Men and Women of the Gospel Choir.  Venue: Capital Hilton.  Attended by 300 guests.

World Wildlife Fund honored the remarkable work and conservation accomplishments of Russell E. Train at the Saving the Living Planet, a tribute to Russell E. The evening included songs, poetry and testimonials by artists and activists from  Afghanistan, Africa, Bosnia, Cambodia and South America.
